The color guard at Lakeville South is a competition color guard performing and competing as a section within The Lakeville South Marching Cougars. During the spring season, The Marching Cougars Color Guard works on fundamental skills and conditioning training in preparation for their summer parade season and fall competition field show season. Students from McGuire Middle School, Kenwood Middle School (who will attend LSHS) and LSHS students are all eligible to participate in The Marching Cougars Color Guard. Students can choose to participate in summer season only or summer/fall season.

The Lakeville South Marching Cougars are a competitive marching band earning three consecutive Minnesota State Marching Band Championship titles.

Summer Color Guard

Summer Color Guard is PARADE SEASON!

During the summer months, The Lakeville South Marching Cougars perform at local parades throughout The Twin Cities. These opportunities are fun, non-competitive parade performances allowing the guard to show off their skills, engage with parade-goers, have a great time enjoying the beautiful summer weather and collaborate with their bandmates to put on an incredible show for parade spectators.

The Lakeville South Marching Cougars have performed at The Elko New Market Parade, Delano 4th of July Parade, Lakeville Pan o' Prog Parade, Hopkins Raspberry Days Parade, Minneapolis Aquatennial Torchlight Parade and the Montgomery Kolacky Days Parade. Summer parade season runs from May through late July.

Spinning, tossing and dancing to music from the past and present played by our fabulous marching band, they are crowd pleasers wherever they go!

Fall Color Guard

Fall Color Guard is COMPETITION SEASON!

After enjoying the summer months entertaining crowds throughout The Twin Cities, performers choosing to continue into fall begin their competitive marching band season. Beginning with marching band camp, they learn and perfect their competition field show during a week of fun activities, lots of hard work and critical team bonding.

The Lakeville South Marching Cougars compete in parade competitions at The Minnesota State Fair and The Waseca Marching Classic. From there, they continue on to their field show competition schedule performing at competitions like The Waseca Marching Classic Field Show, The Rosemount Marching Band Festival and The Irondale Music of the Knight Marching Band Competition. Finally, they end their fall competition season with The Youth in Music Minnesota State High School Band Championships where they compete for the title of state champions at US Bank Stadium. Fall competition season runs from late July through mid-October.

We are so proud of our performers for winning many first place titles throughout the last few seasons and for earning the title of 2021 Class A State Champions , 2022 AND 2023 Class AA State Champions. In just a few years, through enthusiasm for the sport of the marching arts combined with grit and dedication, these amazing kids have transformed a guard, who started as 7 eager kids wanting to add sparkle to their parade shows, into an elite competative color guard.
